TA | Hardware required to form a new home network setup in Windows XP

There are four types of different ways to setup the Network Setup

a) Network adapters or network cards connect your computers system to the network and enable them to communicate with a pair of the computers system. Network adapters can be attached to the USB port on your computer or installed within your computer in an available PCI expansion slot.

b) Network hubs and cables: A hub connects communication lines at a core location. A hub is typically used for connecting a pair or multiple computers system to an Ethernet network. A hub is not compulsory if you attach your computers system through your phone lines using a home phone line network adapter, or if you make use of a wireless adapter. You may be capable to use IEEE 1394 network adapters on your computer system.

c) Modem: A modem can be a 28.8 or 56 Kbps modem, a wireless modem, an Integrated Services Digital Network, a Digital Subscriber Line, or a cable modem.

d) The computers on your network must meet the following minimum requirements:
If you make use of Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), the computer sharing its Internet connection (the ICS host computer) should be running Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional on to your computer system.

Network Setup Wizard can only be run on computers in which Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 is running.
When you have the entire required hardware installed in each one of your computers systems, then you can ready to run the Network Setup Wizard on to your computer systems.
